The Productivity & Innovation Centre (PIC) supports Small-and-Medium-Sized-Enterprises (SME) and entrepreneurs with applied research, commercialization, scale-up and growth. In particular, PIC:
Provides access to advisory services and programs, and provincial, federal and private sector innovation programs
Supports the design of innovative products and services
Facilitates commercialization processes
Helps SMEs with productivity and growth capacity
Productivity Assessment and Implementation (PAI) program
PIC has supported over 55 SMEs, resulting in over $1.2 million in business investment through its flagship PAI program.
In Phase I of this two-phase program, eligible SMEs can receive up to $4,000 (80%) in grant funding to subsidize the cost of an operational assessment. SMEs select an expert from the PIC bank of consultants to evaluate ten areas of operational efficiency. The consultant identifies key strengths, opportunities, areas of improvement, and productivity enhancements in a detailed report. The PIC programs manager works with the SME to create an implementation plan, providing $4,000 (80%) in grant funding to subsidize the operational assessment.
In Phase II, clients can apply for up to $5,000 (80%) in grant funding to implement the plan. Grant funding can be used for:
Upgrading and modernizing equipment
Digitizing and automating work processes
Developing and implementing marketing, branding, and business strategies
IT and communications, computer programming, software and hardware
Applied research, prototype development, and commercialization
PIC is a member of the Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs (ONE) and is supported by FedNor and the Timmins Economic Development Corporation. In 2018, PIC received recognition as one of the 18 Regional Innovation Centres in the province of Ontario.
