Starting your own Business

The Business Enterprise Centre provides free assistance to entrepreneurs to help them start or grow a business.  The BEC serves a territory which extends along the Highway 11 corridor and includes all communities from Hornepayne to Iroquois Falls.  Timmins and communities along the James Bay are also part of the Timmins BEC area.

The BEC is an important link to the business community.  It focuses on providing support to start-up and existing small and medium enterprises.  Entrepreneurs are provided with easy access to business consulting services and information covering management, marketing, registration, technology and financing.  We promote entrepreneurship at all levels, and deliver programs targeted to key areas, including seniors, youth, unemployed, women, aboriginal, etc.  Our services are designed to create an entrepreneurial culture, with a goal of producing new employment in the region. 

The BEC delivers programs and services on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry. 

Services provided at the BEC office include:

  • One on one business consultations

  • Business related inquiries

  • Mentorship program

  • Administration of Summer Company Program

  • Delivery and support of entrepreneurship Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation programs

  • Delivery and support of Canada Youth Business Foundation

  • Partner in small business week activities

  • Business workshops, programs and seminars

  • Business referrals to professionals

  • Municipal zoning and business licensing information

  • Business visits

  • Linkages to business related organizations and contacts

  • Site selection services

  • Business plan reviews

  • Financial planning and information

The BEC is also linked with a variety of community and business organizations to help support new and existing entrepreneurs.  In addition to support, these partners can also assist in the administration and delivery of key projects and initiatives.  A few key partners for the BEC include financial institutions, community futures development corporations, chambers of commerce, and self-employment programs.
