TIMMINS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO PROACTIVELY ASSIST EMPLOYERS WITH WORKFORCE NEEDS

TIMMINS, ON - July 11, 2012:  The Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC), in partnership with the Timmins Local Immigration Partnership (TLIP), has initiated an Employer Ambassador Program and the development of an Employers Council.  The Council is made up of 17 Human Resources and Senior Management personnel from various local employers.  The Employer Council will develop employer-driven strategies designed to reduce barriers, create understanding and build capacity to address workforce trends and current and future labour shortages.

Stemming from recommendations from the Employer Council, the www.jobsintimmins.com  website was redeveloped with a new look and enhanced functionality to become an integral  resource tool for job seekers and to give employers a competitive edge to post job vacancies on-line at no cost.

The website allows the TEDC to market local job opportunities.  By increasing the profile of the City of Timmins' and its employment environment, the TEDC will leverage the community's appeal in regards to attracting, retaining, and integrating skilled workers and professionals.  Since January 2012 there have been 292 registered users that have posted 470 job vacancies throughout Timmins and region.

Fred Gibbons, Chair of the TEDC said, "As the rest of the province continues to recover from the global economic downturn, Timmins and area is in the enviable position of enjoying a robust economy that still has large unmet workforce needs.  www.jobsintimmins.com is just one of many initiatives emanating from the Timmins Economic Development Corporation and its Employers Council that seeks to inform the public generally about the various employment opportunities that Timmins area employers have available."

In early May, a survey was sent out to the registered job listers to obtain feedback on the effectiveness of posting employment opportunities on the www.jobsintimmins.com website.  From the positive responses received there is an overall satisfaction attributed to the exposure on the website in successfully filling posted vacancies.

"I am confident that any employer or job seeker interested in our employment sector will see the benefits that www.jobsintimmins.com has to offer.  In addition to being user friendly, the webpage provides a no fee based service that is open to all businesses and candidates that are local or are willing to relocate to the area", said Jamie Klomp, Chair of the Employer Council.

Whether you are seeking employment or seeking employees,  www.jobsintimmins.com  is the first place to go!
