The Timmins Economic Development Corporation is Seeking New Board Members

The TEDC is looking for individuals who want to make a positive difference in their community. We strive to build a strong and effective board by ensuring that our membership is comprised of a broad and diversified base of talented and skilled people who want to become involved with business and community development issues.

Candidates desirous of sitting on the Board must send a resume and letter of intent to the CEO, which shall be brought forward to the Board for consideration at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting.

Our mission
• To promote quality of life through community development.

• To secure and support new and existing business and community initiatives.

• To enhance sustainable development and the environment thereby creating employment for the people who live or plan to live in Timmins.

Mandate
We provide bilingual services and are a one-stop source of market information for business and industry. We act as a catalyst for economic development initiatives for the municipality. We strive to be an effective agent in the attraction, development and sustenance of businesses, which contributes to the economic, social and general well-being of the community.

Time Commitment
•  The board meets ten times a year once a month (exception summer) to make plans and discuss items. These meeting are 1.5 hours in length

•  Committee work and individual responsibilities - time commitment varies

•   If any Director is absent for a total of sixty (60) percent of the meetings held by the Board during the fiscal year, that Director would automatically be removed from office effective March 1st the following year. If, however, a Director has been absent for sixty (60) percent of the meetings held due to special circumstances, the remainder of the Board may vote to determine whether or not that Director shall be deemed to be not in violation of this section, and shall continue to be a Director for the remainder of his or her normal term. 

Term of Office
The term of office varies between 3 and 5 years of service.

Primary Purpose
The Corporation's primary purpose shall be in the areas of:
•   Business development and attraction; 
•   Business retention and expansion;
•   Community development;
•   Job creation;
•   Removing barriers to development, growth and attraction; and
•   Leveraging available funds to support the above noted core areas.

Required Skills and Assets
Eligibility
•  Every Director shall be eighteen or more years of age, shall be a Member of the Corporation, or shall become a Member of the Corporation within ten days after election or appointment as a Director and shall not be an undischarged bankrupt.

Through the process of electing Directors the following criteria shall also be taken into consideration:
•  Whether the individual is a Timmins resident.

•  Whether the individual is community minded, action oriented and from a sector or group representing the fabric of our community's economic sectors; and

•  The individual's experience, accomplishments, and educational background.

Nomination Process
Candidates desirous of sitting on the Board must send a resume and letter of intent to the CEO, which shall be brought forward to the Board for consideration at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting.


Letters of intent must be received by 4:30 p.m. on December 8, 2011.
