German Company Seeking Buildings for Test Sites

TIMMINS:  The Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) is currently working with a German company to showcase the benefits of their product to the North American market.  We are seeking builders or contractors who are willing to test the new wood fiber insulation material to reconstruct the out or inside walls of a building.

Unger-Diffutherm Corp, based in Chemnitz Germany, has developed a product to reduce energy by utilizing the features of wood fibers.  Their original insulating material was only for the outside walls of a building, which could then be coated with special plaster in a variety of different colours.  Since then, the company has invented many insulation solutions offering ecological benefits both for new buildings and for the modernization of all types of existing buildings.  The material is fabricated in a process using specially treated wood fibers formed to sheets.  To date, more than two million square meters of insulation has been successfully installed throughout Europe.

Not only does the insulation material save energy wasted through heating and cooling, but is also can provide soundproofing qualities.  The product offers health benefits, in that it does not allow for the growth of mold, which can happen behind regular insulating material.  It also guarantees a balanced moisture level in the room and does not irritate the skin when handling.

Unger-Diffutherm Corp is seeking to work with local contractors and builders to test their product in Timmins.  They are willing to ship their product and work with contractors to undertake a thorough investigation of the value and benefits of the material for use in North America.  Once they have baseline data, the next step will be to set up a manufacturing plant to produce and sell the products in Canada and the US.  The goal of the TEDC is to work with the company to ensure that this plant is established in our community.

We encourage all contractors and builders to contact Cheryl St-Amour at the Timmins Economic Development Corporation to get more information about this exciting opportunity.  Cheryl can be reached at (705) 360-2600 X7081 or by email at cheryl.stamour@timmins.ca.
