
The Timmins Fire Department provides protection from fire, life-threatening emergencies, and dangerous conditions, through a team approach to fire protection, fire prevention, and public education. The Timmins Fire Department serves the City of Timmins and includes volunteer departments in Mountjoy, Porcupine, South Porcupine, Schumacher, and Connaught and also responds to some calls outside city limits, according to need.

The OPP is involved with, and sponsors, many crime prevention programs. Some of these crime prevention programs include: Neighbourhood Watch, Cottage Watch, SKI ID, BIKE ID, Anti-Theft programs, Traveling Alone for Women, Anti-Shoplifting programs, Robbery Prevention, Values, Influences and Peers Program (Grade 6 program), D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), Crime Stoppers (District of Cochrane), VCARS, MADD, Childfind, Special Olympics, and PAL, a crime watch program in conjunction with Union Gas. Fall 2012 marked the opening of the 14,200 square foot state-of-the-art forensic science facility that features up-to-date amenities to better support the demands of modern police operations and to meet the needs of the community. The new unit consists of the main forensics building that has three large laboratories, more space, and the opportunity for safer practices. The unit also has a garage that is used to store and conduct forensic examinations of crime-scene vehicles. This forensics unit not only serves South Porcupine but detachments throughout the region in Cochrane, Smooth Rock Falls, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Kirkland Lake, and the James Bay Coast.
