 SHANIA TWAIN CENTRE

 SNOWMOBILING

Timmins is very proud of Shania Twain. In 2001, the city built the $5.5 million Shania Twain Centre to celebrate her early life and career. Open year-round, this major attraction draws thousands of visitors every year. The 1,022 square metre tourist complex showcases three themes: 1. Shania's life, career and music, 2. the support and devotion of Shania's fans, and 3. the community during Shania's life in Timmins. There are personal mementos, awards, video presentations, and over a million dollars worth of stage costumes and clothes. Shania herself has donated all of her memorabilia, including her wedding gown, to make this a unique collection. Fans, too, have donated art and items, inspired by their beloved Shania.

Snowmobiling in the city and region, is a major winter sport, attracting riders from as far away as the U.S.A.  Ontario is criss-crossed by 49,000 km of snowmobile trails, and Timmins is the centre of this trail network.  With some 2,000 members, the Timmins Snowmobile Club maintains 441 km of groomed trails, and the clubhouse is open to visitors.  This first-class trail system brings riders to neighbouring communities and into bordering Quebec.  Pristine wilderness trails and business area snowmobile access routes provide an array of trails to many services, such as restaurants, motels, service stations, banks and shopping areas.  Many hotels and motels offer snowmobilers secure machine lockups.  Trail permits are required to ride public trails and may be purchased on the trail or through the Timmins Snowmobile Club.  Call:  (705) 264-7066.
